The Swaminarayan Akshardham, Gandhinagar was inaugurated in 1992 by Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Dedicated to the life and work of Bhagwan Swaminarayan, Akshardham shares the ancient wisdom revealed in the Upanishads, Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Vachanamrut through 3-D dioramas, audio-visual displays, and audio-animatronics shows. The complex houses the Akshardham Mandir; three exhibition halls; the AARSH research institute ; children’s entertainment and attractions; lush green gardens; Mystic India, a large format film; and traditional cuisine. The monument is in the state capitol of Gujarat and only minutes from the largest city in Gujarat, Ahmedabad. It serves as an informational, spiritual, and recreational attraction to hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
