In the summer of 2007, Pramukh Swami Maharaj consecrated two traditional Hindu mandirs in North America. These mandirs, built according to the Hindu Shilpa Shastras, were completed in less than two years. The inauguration festival in Toronto and Atlanta were attended by tens of thousands of people. In addition, the Mandir Mahotsav in Toronto was attended by the Canadian Prime Minister Stephen J. Harper, Ontario Premiere Dalton Mcguinty, and the Mayor of Toronto. The inauguration of the Mandir in Atlanta was attended by U.S. Congressman Henry Hank Johnson. The events were telecasted live to over 170 countries. The Nagar Yatras, or cultural processions, before the inauguration displayed elephants, folk dancers, and bhajans accompanying live music. The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha mandirs in Atlanta and Toronto feature unique exhibitions which focus on understanding Hinduism and celebrating Indo-Canadian heritage.
