‘Language gives shape to our thoughts and colours to our imagination.’
To help the students appreciate the world from a different perspective and inculcate in them a love for the English language, Swaminarayan Vidyamandir Randesan celebrated English Language week from 18th April to 23 April. The theme for this year was ‘Enhancing English-Let us take a step ahead’.
Many fun-filled activities were conducted during this week for the students of classes V to IX. Some of the categories were Spot the Error, Vocabulary Voyage, Grammar Surgeon, Spot Speaking, Storytelling etc. The classrooms became abuzz with students displaying a multitude of talent and creativity with each activity.
A special assembly was organised on 18th, 22nd and 23rd April. On 18th April, the students were introduced to the purpose of celebrating English Language Week and its significance. It was followed by a quiz for all the classes. On 22nd April, Std 5 & 6 presented tips on how to remember spellings, techniques to improve your handwriting in English followed by a Spell Bee competition.
On 23rd April, the special assembly commenced with a group discussion which highlighted some common grammatical errors that the students make while writing & speaking. It was followed by a skit which emphasised on ‘Encouraging English as a primary language of interaction in campus’. The students presented various ways in which they can motivate each other to speak in English during class and how to improve their language skills. Their happiness and excitement was clearly evident and worth watching.
The special assembly ended with a speech by our campus director Dr. Neeta Shah. In her speech she highlighted the fact that English has become a global language and how important it is for everyone to cherish it. She motivated all the students to not take English as a subject but as a skill.
The various innovative, enriching and entertaining activities made English Week a memorable one for the students, and inspired them.
