The Right Honourable Mark Carney, Prime Minister of Canada, visited the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto on April 5, 2025, on the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversaries of Bhagwan Shri Swaminarayan and Bhagwan Shri Ram.

Upon his arrival, Prime Minister Carney was warmly received by the Board of Directors of BAPS Canada and welcomed in a traditional Hindu manner in the Abhishek Mandapam. Pujya Gunsagardas Swami, the Head Swami of BAPS activities in Canada, honoured the Prime Minister with a rose garland. Pujya Gnanpriyadas Swami, a senior BAPS swami, tied the nada-chhadi (sacred thread symbolising goodwill) on his wrist.

Pujya Yagnavallabhdas Swami, the Head Swami of BAPS activities in North America, then performed the auspicious abhishek ritual of Nilkanth Varni Maharaj alongside the Prime Minister, offering prayers for peace and well-being across Canada and around the world.

The Prime Minister then proceeded to the Mandir, where he admired the architecture and intricate carvings, taking a deep interest in the spiritual and cultural significance of this sacred place. He joined the swamis in performing the arti and offered flowers and a basket of fruits to the murtis in the central shrine.

Prime Minister Carney was then presented with a special edition of the Satsang Diksha, a spiritual scripture authored by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. This unique edition was written in Sanskrit, Gujarati, English, and French.

A special letter of blessings for the Prime Minister, sent from India by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, was then read aloud in his presence. The Prime Minister was touched by the heartfelt message. Mahant Swami Maharaj wrote: “It is a pleasure and joy to welcome you today to the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto, Canada. Your visit is deeply appreciated, and prayers have been offered to Bhagwan Swaminarayan for your continued strength and clarity as you lead the nation of Canada with wisdom, strength, and integrity… Prayers have also been offered for Canada’s continued success and for the well-being of its citizens.”

Before his departure, the Prime Minister took a few moments to write a message in the guest book: “With the deepest appreciation for your prayers and hospitality, and with all my conviction to work without fail to promote peace, unity, harmony, and prosperity for Canada, India, and all nations.”

He also spent time interacting with community members and Hindu leaders, marking a warm and meaningful conclusion to his visit.
