Devotees across North America recently gathered at BAPS Mandirs to joyously celebrate the auspicious birth anniversaries of Bhagwan Shri Swaminarayan and Bhagwan Shri Ram with the theme, “Unity Begins Within.” The celebration focused on the profound teachings of unity exemplified by both Bhagwan Swaminarayan and Bhagwan Ram through the four pillars of mahima (glory), milan (togetherness), madad (support), and maafi (forgiveness). Through these divine principles, attendees learned the importance of fostering unity within their families, communities, and spiritual lives.
The program shared inspiring episodes from the Ramayan and Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s time that illustrated these pillars. The story of Bhagwan Ram and Shabri highlighted the power of mahima, as she saw divinity in Ram Bhagwan beyond societal norms. The bond between Sugriva and Bhagwan Ram demonstrated madad, showcasing how unity in purpose leads to victory. Mata Kaikeyi’s redemption was a testament to maafi, underscoring the transformative power of forgiveness. Similarly, Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s interactions with Dada Khachar, Jivan Koli, and Jhinabhai Thakor illustrated these virtues in action, guiding devotees on how to embody them in their own lives.
Devotees of all ages participated in the program, which featured engaging elements including devotional musical performances, insightful skits, and videos that conveyed the essence of unity. Pujya Swamis delivered impactful discourses, elaborating on the four pillars and their relevance in strengthening unity. Through these teachings, devotees gained a deeper understanding of cultivating harmony in their relationships and overcoming challenges through spiritual wisdom.
His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj exemplified these values, and today, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj continues to reinforce these teachings—reminding individuals that unity does not begin externally, but within each individual, through milan, madad, mahima, and maafi.
