On August 18, 2024, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, marked a momentous occasion with the Murti Pratishtha ceremony of Shri Nilkanth Varni Maharaj. The day's events were highlighted by a series of traditional rituals and celebrations that brought together devotees from across the region.

The day commenced with an energetic Nagar Yatra, filled with devotional music and traditional dance performances by participants, setting a joyful and reverent atmosphere for the proceedings that followed.

Following the procession, Pujya Swamis led a Vedic Mahapuja, where hundreds of devotees gathered to partake in the sacred rituals. Pujya Gnaneshwardas Swami performed the consecration of Shri Nilkanth Varni Maharaj. The divine ambiance during these rituals enveloped all in attendance, offering a profound experience of spiritual upliftment. Thereafter, the first abhishek and arti were performed by Swamis, followed by an annakut—a devotional offering of a variety of food. Additionally, the new chal murtis of Akshar Purushottam Maharaj were also welcomed to the mandir.

The event was further enriched by the presence of notable guests from the surrounding communities. Commissioner Jeff Nash, on behalf of Senator Jim Beach and Camden County, presented proclamations alongside Assemblywomen Pam Lamont and Assemblyman Greenwald. Brian Bauerle, Chief of Staff for Cherry Hill Township, also presented a proclamation from Mayor David Fleisher and the Cherry Hill Council, emphasizing BAPS’s valuable contributions to the community.

Councilwoman Heather Cooper shared a proclamation from Evesham Township, acknowledging BAPS’s positive impact on local residents. Additionally, Jaclyn Veasy, Mayor of Marlton, NJ, sent a proclamation praising the significant role BAPS and its volunteers have played in the community. Mayor Michael Mignogna and the Voorhees, NJ Council also honored the occasion with a proclamation recognizing the 50th anniversary of BAPS in North America.

Devotees now have the opportunity to engage in the sacred practice of performing or arranging an abhishek for personal milestones such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and memorials. This practice serves as a meaningful way for individuals to express devotion, seek blessings, and strengthen their spiritual connection, providing comfort and inspiration on these special days.
