Since ancient times, Hindus have honored and cared for nature and the environment, since healthy surroundings are essential for human survival. Among the many challenges facing the modern-day world, the need to protect the environment is one of the most important. To raise the awareness for this, spiritual head of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, as well as thousands of BAPS swamis and devotees throughout India and the world performed ‘Prakruti Vandan’ – special worship rituals to trees and plants to honor their role in sustaining life on earth – on 30 August 2020.
The special rituals, performed while adhering to coronavirus safety guidelines, included chanting of the Vedic Shanti Path (Universal Peace Prayer), and pujan and arti of a tree or plant.
While performing the honor rituals in Nenpur, Gujarat, His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj said, “Pramukh Swami Maharaj frequently said that if you take care of nature, nature will take care of you. He inspired people to plant hundreds of thousands of trees and guided us on how to care for nature and the environment. Let us all resolve today to protect the environment and ensure a healthy human future.”
As per the wish of Mahant Swami Maharaj, 1,100 BAPS sadhus and thousands of devotees in India, the UK, USA, Canada, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East and other BAPS centers worldwide performed the special rituals at 11.00 a.m. local time.
Of special note is that several historic and sacred trees were among those worshiped. In Sarangpur, Doctor Swami honored the Shami tree sanctified by Bhagwan Swaminarayan; in Ahmedabad, Tyagvallabh Swami worshiped a neem tree planted at the request of Brahmaswarup Shastriji Maharaj; at Akshardham in Gandhinagar, Ishwarcharan Swami honored the generations-old banyan tree sanctified by Brahmaswarup Yogiji Maharaj; and at Akshardham in New Delhi, Dharmavatsal Swami and other saints performed pujan of the jambu tree sanctified by Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
Such widespread participation in these worship rituals was a fitting tribute to the environmental activities inspired by Brahmaswarup Pramukh Swami Maharaj as we continue to celebrate his birth centenary.
વિશ્વભરમાં ' પ્રકૃતિ વંદન' કરતા બી.એ.પી.એસ. સ્વામિનારાયણ સંપ્રદાયના હજારો સંતો અને હરિભકતો
ભારતીય સંસ્કૃતિમાં વૈદિક સમયથી પ્રકૃતિ પ્રત્યે પ્રેમ અને આદરનો એક અનોખો પ્રવાહ વહેતો રહ્યો છે. વૈદિક શાંતિપાઠથી લઈને વટપૂજન કે તુલસીપૂજન જેવી અનેક પરંપરાઓ આપણને પ્રકૃતિના જતનનો સંદેશ આપતી રહી છે. વર્તમાન વિશ્વ અનેક સમસ્યાઓમાંથી પસાર થઈ રહ્યું છે ત્યારે હવે સૌને સમજાઈ રહ્યું છે કે આપણે પ્રકૃતિથી જેટલા દૂર જઈ રહ્યા છીએ તેટલી વધુ સમસ્યાઓને નિમંત્રણ આપી રહ્યા છીએ. આથી જ પ્રકૃતિવંદના દ્વારા પ્રકૃતિના જતનનો વૈશ્વિક સંદેશ આપતાં બી.એ.પી.એસ. સ્વામિનારાયણ સંસ્થાના ધર્મગુરુ પૂજ્ય મહંત સ્વામી મહારાજે તારીખ 30 ઓગસ્ટ 2020ના રોજ બી.એ.પી.એસ. સ્વામિનારાયણ સંસ્થાના લાખો હરિભક્તોને પ્રકૃતિવંદનાના વૈશ્વિક કાર્યક્રમમાં જોડાવા આહવાન આપ્યું હતું.
તેઓશ્રીના આદેશ મુજબ બી.એ.પી.એસ. સ્વામિનારાયણ સંસ્થાના ભારત અને વિદેશના હજારો સત્સંગ કેન્દ્રોમાં તારીખ 30 ઓગસ્ટ 2020 ના રોજ સ્થાનિક સમય પ્રમાણે 11:00 વાગે લાખો હરિભક્તો પ્રકૃતિવંદનાના આ કાર્યક્રમમાં જોડાયા હતા. કોરોના મહામારીના સમયમાં અનિવાર્ય એવા નીતિનિયમોનું બરાબર પાલન કરીને સૌએ વૈદિક શાંતિપાઠ સાથે વૃક્ષપૂજન અથવા તુલસીપૂજન કરીને આરતી ઉતારી હતી.
આ જ સમયે નેનપુર ખાતે બિરાજમાન પરમ પૂજ્ય મહંત સ્વામી મહારાજે વૈદિક શાંતિપાઠ સાથે વૃક્ષપૂજન અને તુલસીપૂજન કરીને આરતી ઉતારી હતી. બ્રહ્મસ્વરૂપ પ્રમુખસ્વામી મહારાજે કરેલા વિરાટ વૃક્ષારોપણના સેવાકાર્યની સ્મૃતિ સાથે પૂજ્ય મહંત સ્વામી મહારાજે જણાવ્યું હતું કે ‘પ્રમુખસ્વામી મહારાજ હંમેશા કહેતા કે તમે પ્રકૃતિનું જતન કરશો તો પ્રકૃતિ તમારું જતન કરશે. તેમણે લાખોની સંખ્યામાં વૃક્ષારોપણ કરાવીને આપણને સૌને વૃક્ષોનું, પ્રકૃતિનું, પર્યાવરણનું જતન કરવાનો આદેશ અને સંદેશ આપ્યો છે. તો આપણે સૌ આજે પ્રતિજ્ઞાબદ્ધ થઈએ અને પ્રકૃતિની સેવા કરીને, વૃક્ષોનું જતન અને સંવર્ધન કરીને માનવજાતનું ભવિષ્ય ઉજ્જવળ બનાવીએ.’
પૂજ્ય મહંત સ્વામી મહારાજના આદેશ મુજબ બી.એ.પી.એસ. સ્વામિનારાયણ સંસ્થાના તમામ મંદિરોમાં ૧૧૦૦થી વધુ સંતોએ પણ વૈદિક પરંપરા મુજબ વૃક્ષપૂજન કર્યું હતું. તેમાં સંસ્થાના વરિષ્ઠ સદગુરુવર્ય સંતોએ ઐતિહાસિક અને પ્રાસાદિક વૃક્ષનું પૂજન કર્યું હતું. પૂજ્ય ડોક્ટર સ્વામીએ સારંગપુર ખાતે ભગવાન સ્વામિનારાયણના મહાપ્રસાદિક શમીવૃક્ષનું પૂજન કર્યું હતું. પૂજ્ય ત્યાગવલ્લભદાસ સ્વામીએ અમદાવાદ ખાતે બ્રહ્મસ્વરૂપ શાસ્ત્રીજી મહારાજ દ્વારા રોપાયેલા નીંબતરુના પ્રાસાદિક વૃક્ષનું પૂજન કર્યું હતું. ગાંધીનગરમાં અક્ષરધામ ખાતે પૂજ્ય ઈશ્વરચરણ સ્વામી બ્રહ્મસ્વરૂપ યોગીજી મહારાજના પ્રાસાદિક પૌરાણિક સમયના વટવૃક્ષનું પૂજન કર્યું હતું. આ ઉપરાંત દિલ્હીમાં અક્ષરધામ ખાતે બ્રહ્મસ્વરૂપ પ્રમુખસ્વામી મહારાજના પ્રાસાદિક જાંબુવૃક્ષનું પૂજન પૂજ્ય ધર્મવત્સલ સ્વામી અને સંતોએ કર્યું હતું.
લંડન, ન્યુયોર્ક, શિકાગો, એટલાન્ટા, લોસ એન્જેલસ, ટોરંટો, નૈરોબી, સીડની, મેલબર્ન, દુબઈ, બાહરીન વગેરે વિશ્વના અનેક મહાનગરો સહિત ભારતના અનેક મહાનગરો અને આદિવાસીઓના ગામડાઓ સુધી બી.એ.પી.એસ. સ્વામિનારાયણ સંસ્થાના લાખો ભક્તો અને સંતોએ પ્રકૃતિવંદના કરીને ભારતની આ મહાન પરંપરાના જતનની પ્રેરણાને હૃદયમાં દૃઢ કરી હતી. બ્રહ્મસ્વરૂપ પ્રમુખસ્વામી મહારાજના શતાબ્દી મહોત્સવના ઉપક્રમે પ્રકૃતિવંદનાનો આ કાર્યક્રમ તેઓના ચરણે એક મહાન અંજલિરૂપ બની રહ્યો છે.
