A seminar focussed on healthy eating was organised by the Balika Mandal on Saturday 22 February 2014 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London.
Attended by 75 balikas (aged between 8 and 14) and 30 mothers, the session provided important information to help foster positive eating habits amongst children.
Guest lecturer at the event was qualified nutritionist Nita Patel who explained the essential components of good nutrition and focussed on a traditional vegetarian Indian diet.
The seminar covered the basics of a balanced diet and the importance of other factors in remaining healthy, such as hygiene, exercise, food shopping, and sensible snacking.
The interactive presentation allowed the balikas to discuss and ask questions to help them learn and understand.
After the seminar, one parent shared, “This has been really useful. I thought it was very informative and I look forward to more of these talks that look into the development of the children.”
The children also enjoyed the presentation, as Ms Patel noted how enthusiastically they asked so many relevant questions.
The event thus proved to be a success in educating both children and parents.
