Yogiji Maharaj blessed the city of Kisumu with his visits in 1955, 1960 and 1970 to nourish the growth of satsang. For many years, the weekly satsang sabha was held at devotees' homes. In 2004, Pramukh Swami Maharaj inaugurated the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Kisumu and performed Murti Pratishtha.
Devotees decided to celebrate the completion of 10 years of the mandir with events and niyams throughout the year. Over 250 devotees took up various 'niyams' - disciplines, including attending katha, Aarti at the mandir, singing the Cheshta daily, performing special pradakshina or mala, prabhat feri, samuh puja and many other niyams.
These events culminated in the Dashabdi Mahotsav, celebrated on 1st November in the presence of Pujya Swayamprakash Swami (Pujya Doctor Swami). An Annakut of 1010 items was prepared by devotees for the event. The main sabha theme was "Shanti", or "Peace". The attendees learned how the mandir had provided shanti in the country, city, society, family, and in many personal lives. Everyone prayed together for shanti across the world and in everyone's hearts and minds.
