On 31 May 2013, World No-Tobacco Day, more than 800 BAPS children from throughout Mumbai, in groups, braved the summer heat and humidity to participate in a 27.3 km Anti-Addiction Prayer March from the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Dadar to Borivali. Each group of boys and girls walked an average of 3.2 km, chanting the shanti-path, prayers, omkar and the Janmangal Namavali (108 divine names of Bhagwan Swaminarayan). The children appealed to all addicts to shun their addictions and support their families instead. Clad in white uniforms, the marching kids attracted the attention of thousands of Mumbaikars passing by the bustling S.V. road from morning to evening.
In the fifteen days prior to this march, these kids had also contacted many addicts, meeting them one-to-one and humbly requesting them to throw away their bidi, cigarette, tobacco and alcohol addiction as a gift to their families.
Previously, in 2000 and 2007, BAPS children had similarly campaigned to create de-addiction awareness, alerting many to the dangers of cancer caused by addictions.
