Nigeria is a vast country, home to over 250 diverse ethnic groups that speak over 400 languages. It is home to the world's second-largest film industry, and has abundant oil and gas resources. Indians have been settling here since before Nigeria’s independence from British rule in 1960.
Sindhis, and after the 1990s, Gujaratis have significantly migrated here. For over 50 years, mandirs of Sanatan Hindu Dharma have been constructed and festivals regularly celebrated.
For years, prominent Sindhi community leaders Shri Anil Gopwani from Ahmedabad and Shri Lalitbhai Ganwani from Toronto, Canada, had been associated with the BAPS organization. These two senior Sindhi members had specifically requested BAPS swamis to bring satsang to Nigeria.
On 13 March 2025, for the first time, four BAPS swamis – Gunsagardas Swami, Aksharvandandas Swami, Amrutswarupdas Swami and Brahmakirtandas Swami – arrived in Nigeria.
They were accompanied by several BAPS volunteers. Local devotees managed all the arrangements in Lagos, the capital.
The swamis met Shri Chandramauli Kumar, India's Consul General in Nigeria. During this meeting, he shared many details about Indians living in Nigeria and swamis discussed the various service activities conducted by BAPS. The swamis presented him a copy of the Satsang Diksha.
The swamis also visited the ISKCON Mandir, Gita Mandir, Gita Ashram and other Hindu mandirs. The swamis were warmly received, as it was the first time Hindu swamis were visiting.
On 15 March 2025, in the evening, the swamis conducted a satsang assembly at Sundarkand Pathya. The swamis spoke on the messages of Sundarkand and inspired the devotees to develop steadfast devotion like Hanuman in their lives.
Additionally, they conducted satsang in small groups at the homes of devotees.
On 16 March 2025, a public satsang assembly was organized at Gita Ashram, attended by around 200 local followers. The entire arrangement was managed by Sindhi community leader Shri Anilbhai Gopwani. Devotees were delighted by the swamis’ kirtans and discourses. India's Consul General Shri Chandramauli, senior Gujarati community representatives Shri Shaileshbhai Tanna and Shri Chandreshbhai Shah were also present. Quoting the Satsang Diksha, Shri Chandramauli said, “Everything that can be achieved in human life is contained in this Satsang Diksha shastra.”
The saints visited over 35 devotees' homes, shops, and industrial complexes, offering prayers for their well-being.
The five-day visit helped to strengthen the devotion of satsangis staying in different places, encouraged others to became satsang-oriented and inspired many to give up vices and adopt a pure lifestyle.
