Due to the torrential downpour of rain in Sarangpur and its surrounding villages on 3 and 4 July 2007, many places were flooded in upto 6 feet of water.
The BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Sarangpur, was also surrounded by 6 feet of water. Despite this the mandir served as a shelter for 800 pupils and 500 devotees.
On 4 July, as soon as the flood water receded the sadhus and volunteers served to 2000 people of Sarangpur village. Around 100 sadhus and 300 volunteers went to help the surrounding flood-affected villages of Khambhda, Bela, Khas, Navaria, Monpur, Gangarada, Rajgadh and others, by distributing hot khichdi, 3000 freshly prepared food packets and other essentials.
Even in the mandir, hot meals were served to the flood-affected villages who came.
Coordinating the relief work initiated by BAPS, Narayanmuni Swami commented that in this time of need Pramukh Swami Maharaj has instructed that all possible help be given to the flood victims.
