Organ Donation Launch in Parliament, UK
Hindus, Jains and representatives from various faiths gathered in Parliament to launch an awareness campaign about the upcoming law change concerning organ donation
The meeting was chaired by Lord Gadhia
Kirit Modi, a kidney transplant recipient and Chair of the Jain and Hindu Organ Donation (JHOD) steering group
Rt Hon. Matt Hancock, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, presided over the event
Secretary Hancock applauded the support of the faith communities on this vital public health issue
Bob Blackman MP helped host the event in Parliament
Representatives of various faiths were present for the launch of the awareness campaign
Dr Neil Soneji, a BAPS volunteer, introduced the educational video prepared with the help of BAPS
The video draws upon patient testimonies and opinions from Hindu faith leaders, medical professionals and community leaders
BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in London has played a leading role in dispelling faith-based misconceptions about organ donation among the British Hindu community
Yogvivek Swami conveyed Mahant Swami Maharaj's message, encouraging all Hindus to selflessly donate their organs after death to help others in need
The video explains that donating an organ is often a family decision
Prafula Shah encouraged fellow Jains to spread awareness about the organ donation campaign among her faith community
Representatives from the Hindu community endorsed the law change on organ donation
