From 1974 to 2014, His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj revitalized Hindu traditions and culture across North America, particularly in the Midwestern United States, through his unwavering dedication and extensive travels. His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, along with Pujya Swamis, further fostered the growth of the Hindu-American community by visiting the region and supporting its cultural, social, and religious endeavors.

Pramukh Swami Maharaj had long envisioned the establishment of a mandir in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This vision became a reality in 2003, with the inauguration of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Minneapolis (Brooklyn Park). The Mandir has since become more than just a place of worship, serving as a source of inspiration for devotees and community members of all ages.

In 2023, Sadguru Pujya Tyagvallabhdas Swami consecrated the site for a new mandir in Medina, MN. This forthcoming mandir will be an architectural masterpiece, combining traditional and modern designs, and will span over 46,000 square feet. The site will include more than 250 parking spaces, classrooms, meeting rooms, a dining area/indoor gymnasium, a large auditorium, and a gift/snack shop. The Mandir will also be surrounded by land featuring a natural water reserve, providing a peaceful setting for worship and community activities.

On July 6, 2024, Pujya Priyaseva Swami performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the new mandir in Medina, MN. The event was marked by a Vedic mahapuja. The ceremony brought together devotees, community leaders—including Andy Johnson from Senator Amy Klobuchar’s office, Minnesota House Representative Ned Carroll, Council Member Todd Albers of Medina, and Police Chief Garett Friesland of Brooklyn Center—and friends and supporters from other BAPS centers in the Midwest. Their shared presence highlighted the collective joy and gratitude surrounding this milestone achievement.

The new mandir will symbolize a spirit of service, devotion to God, and inspiration. It will serve future generations, enriching both the local community and beyond.
