A special cultural event was held to celebrate His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s birth centenary at the iconic Marvel Stadium in Melbourne in the presence of Pujya Swayamprakashdas Swami (Pujya Doctor Swami). More than 7,500 devotees and community members attended the event in-person and were joined by a larger global audience viewing the live broadcast. Titled ‘In the Joy of Others: Peace & Harmony’, the assembly featured speeches, renditions, screenplays, captivating monologues and other presentations commemorating the inspiring and uplifting life and work of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The audience experienced a musical and spiritual journey that sought to guide individuals and families towards a life filled with peace and harmony.
Around 1,300 BAPS volunteers spent over 30,000 man-hours to design, plan and deliver the event. The grandstand hosted 215 dancers from all over Australia, 21 traditional musicians and 18 theater participants with the support of 25 backstage volunteers.
Among the dignitaries present were 32 MPs, councillors and advisors, representatives of 212 community organizations, business leaders and 189 industry professionals.
Speaking on behalf of the Premier of Victoria, the Treasurer of Victoria Hon. Tim Pallas said, "There is no greater exhibit of the union and the strength of community than the people listening here today. Victoria's Hindu community forms such an important part. Your history, your culture, and your sacrifice has helped shape the modern Victoria that we know today."
Opposition Leader Hon. Matthew Guy, remarked, "Pramukh Swami Maharaj was a global torchbearer for love, peace & harmony. He was a pious soul who lived to serve others and lived by the philosophy ‘In the joy of others, lies our own.’ Victoria's Indian community has made outstanding contributions across many fields, including business, public services, education, science, engineering, medicine and the arts."
This marvellous event concluded with traditional dances, arti and fireworks.
