More than 100 children from The Swaminarayan Sunday School, accompanied by volunteers from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London, enjoyed a three-day educational activity camp at Kingswood Grosvenor Hall in Kent from 29 to 31 March 2019.
The camp was designed to build self-confidence, unity and leadership skills, and required many months of meticulous planning.
Over the three days, the children challenged themselves through a variety of tasks specially designed to harness their abilities and overcome personal fears. The activities included Jacob’s Ladder, Powerfan, Leap of Faith, 3G Swing and orienteering.
Morning sessions began with samuh puja where children learned to enhance their daily morning prayers. Evening activities after dinner included arti, thal and various group games as well as a cultural programme. There was also a special activity on Saturday evening themed ‘Matru-Devo Bhava’, where children appreciated and paid respect to their mothers.
The camp concluded with final activities on Sunday, which included a short sabha and group photos for a lasting memory.
The highly enjoyable and educational camp provided a wealth of fun and valuable learning experiences for the children as part of their holistic development. One young girl shared, “The leap of faith was so very scary, but my classmates helped me climb to the top and jump off. I now feel less worried about so many others things that were always troubling me before.”
