BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Wellingborough, welcomes thousands of worshippers and visitors annually to a special day of prayers for peace to prevail in communities across the world. This year, the event was held at the Mandir on Sunday 21 April 2019.
The prayers began in timely fashion at 7am, with visitors joining throughout the day to offer their prayers at the ‘Akshar Deri’ – a beautiful shrine housed within the mandir. Teams of volunteers guided visitors to add to their enriching experience.
Dhruv Shah travelled from Manchester with his whole family for the day. Sharing his thoughts, he remarked, “I have been attending this event regularly and continue to be impressed with the welcome and enthusiasm from all those involved. The sense of community spirit is inspiring. Being able to offer my prayers to those who are suffering is a rewarding feeling for my entire family.”
The prayers continued uninterrupted through to 7pm, and became especially poignant and timely after the tragic loss of and injury to life in Sri Lanka that day.
Mahesh Patel, lead volunteer at the Mandir, shared, “People from across the country unite here every year and offer their prayers for peace and well-being throughout the world. We continue to pray for those who have suffered losses and that peace, goodwill and righteous prosperity prevail worldwide, in the UK, and in our local communities.”
