October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, during which time we honor those who have battled breast cancer or known someone who has done the same. It's also a great time to circulate important messages about breast health and cancer education. Every year since 2012, BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Atlanta hosts a "Worship in Pink" event. This event is a Susan G. Komen program, where local faith-based organizations unite to spread the lifesaving message of early breast cancer detection.
This year, on October 21, 2018, hundreds of women gathered to attend the "Worship in Pink" information session. Dr. Bhoomi Purohit, a local Atlanta primary care physician specializing in women’s health, was invited to speak on the topic of Breast Cancer Awareness and Prevention. Dr. Purohit shared self-exam techniques and tips, breast cancer myths, and the power of the mind when facing breast cancer or supporting loved ones.
