In August 1995, Pramukh Swami Maharaj inaugurated BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London – bringing to fruition years of sacrifice and devotion for thousands of worshippers and well-wishers.
To mark the 20th anniversary of this momentous occasion, a year of inspiring activities and projects were organised for devotees, visitors and the community honouring Yogiji Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s vision, the volunteers’ labour of love, and the Mandir’s contributions in the lives of individuals, families and the local community.
A key focal point of the festivities was to reflect the purity of the Mandir in the lives of individuals. Special themed assemblies throughout the year explored the spiritual significance of daily rites and rituals - such as arti, thal and cheshta - and key teachings of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the Gurus. Deeper religious context was provided to volunteers through tailored interactive group discussions.
A number of cultural, social and health awareness events were also held for the local community, as well as initiatives to strengthen individual devotion and family harmony.
Sadgurus Pujya Mahant Swami (Keshavjivan Swami), Pujya Doctor Swami (Swayamprakash Swami), Pujya Tyagvallabh Swami and Pujya Ishwarcharan Swami presided over many of these programmes.
