Bhadra is a small village near Rajkot. The Swaminarayan School in Bhadra offers instruction for grades 8 through 10. With a population of 35,000, the literacy rate in the village is very low and students rarely have the opportunity to study past elementary education. The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha has worked with the government of Gujarat for funding to make education more accessible to these villagers. Students are taught in a Gujarati medium but take supplementary English classes daily. There is a science lab to teach students the practical application of textual knowledge. Students are encouraged to pursue a higher education in either commerce or science. The school grounds are large with recreational facilities for students in younger grade levels. There is space for extracurricular activities for sports and physical education as well. The Swaminarayan School in Bhadra aims to offer education to every student as a right rather than an opportunity.
