Bhagwan Swaminarayan's revolutionary contribution in social transformation has had many facets. One of them was girls education and women empowerment.
He was the torch bearers for women’s empowerment and girls education at the onset of the 19th century in Gujarat. Women of the Swaminarayan sampraday were educated and hence were amongst the first teachers when education for girls was introduced by the Gaekwad of Baroda. Providing education to girls does help not only girl herself and but also her whole family. Moreover, girls education plays a significant role to eradicate social ills from society.
The legacy of women empowerment started by Bhagwan Swaminarayan has been continued by Gunatit Gurus. Brahmswarup Pramukhswami Maharaj established 'The Swaminarayan Vidyapith' with the purpose the carry forward this legacy of Bhagwan Swaminarayan to empower girls through education comprised of para vidya and apara vidya.
Amidst sylvan surroundings the Swaminarayan Vidyapith is located just 2 kms far from Karamsad, the native town of Sardar Patel near Anand, Gujarat. The 50-acre Swaminarayan Vidyapith campus has a fully residential school for girls. The school campus has facilities which include a mandir, information centre, communication lab, auditorium, play ground, sports complex, dining hall, staff accommodation and many other morden amenities to help prepare pupils for the 21st century. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. At present the school from class IV to XII (science/commerce) is functioning with its full intake capacity of 500 students.
