National Sanskrit University (NSU), Tirupati, a premier Central University of India, formally inaugurated its new Shastri (B.A.) and Acharya (M.A.) academic courses in ‘Akshar-Purushottam Darshan’, the Vedic doctrine propounded by Parabrahma Swaminarayan. It will now give students the opportunity to study Akshar-Purushottam Darshan with the same academic depth as other classical philosophies. The inauguration event, organized by the Faculty of Darshanas (Philosophies), took place in the Chelkani Annarao Auditorium.
The afternoon ceremony commenced with soul-stirring Vedic verses sung by university students, followed by traditional prayers by swamis and devotees of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha. The program was formally inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries.
Academic Inclusion of Vedic Ideology
The official inauguration of the new curriculum was performed by eminent scholar Bhadreshdas Swami, Head of the BAPS Swaminarayan Research Institute, and Prof. Gullapalli S.R. Krishnamurti, Vice-Chancellor of NSU.
A Global Philosophy for Peace
Welcoming the guests, Prof. K. Ganapathi Bhat, Dean of the Faculty of Darshanas, emphasized that this is no ordinary occasion. He stated, “Just as Adi Shankaracharya and Madhvacharya established centers to spread Vedic knowledge throughout India, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha has established spiritual centers globally, from Abu Dhabi to Paris. Now, a center for Akshar-Purushottam Darshan has been established at NSU.” He further added that this philosophy is based on providing inner peace and harmony rather than intellectual conflict.
The Ocean of Vedic Sanatana Dharma
In his inauguration address, Bhadreshdas Swami described Vedic Sanatana Dharma as a vast ocean, “The same Vedic knowledge has flowed in the forms of Advaita, Vishishtadvaita, or Dvaita, and today it is flowing in the form of Akshar-Purushottam Darshan.” He quoted the definition given by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj: “The Akshar-Purushottam principle should be well known, as it is the form of Brahmavidya – divine, Vedic, and eternal.” He described NSU as a ‘rare university’ that maintains a unique balance of respect for philosophy, tradition, and devotion. He likened the start of these courses to sowing a seed that will eventually grow into a massive banyan tree of knowledge.
Confluence of Ancient Tradition and Modern Expansion
Presiding over the ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. G.S.R. Krishnamurti highlighted a significant historical parallel. He mentioned that after Adi Shankaracharya, it is Bhadreshdas Swami who has accomplished the monumental task of writing Sanskrit commentaries (Bhashyas) on all three foundational texts of Vedanta (the Prasthanatrayi). He credited His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj for awakening this philosophy in the hearts of the masses and giving it a global identity. The Vice-Chancellor added, “We have established this department to ensure that this profound philosophy reaches every individual. Today we have sown a small seed; in the future, it will flourish and bloom into a grand banyan tree.”
Commemorating Spiritual Heritage
The launch of these courses coincides with the first anniversary of the creation of the ‘Akshar-Purushottam Darshan Mandap’ on the university campus. Like other Mandaps, this pavilion has been instrumental in providing philosophical knowledge to students. More than 300 devotees gathered to witness this academic and spiritual milestone.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Narayan from the Department of Dvaita Vedanta, who coordinated the event along with Dr. Gyanranjan Panda, Co-coordinator of the Sahitya Department.

समारोह की शुरुआत अपराह्न 4:00 बजे विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों द्वारा हृदयस्पर्शी वैदिक मंगलाचरण के साथ हुई, जिसके बाद बी.ए.पी.एस. (BAPS) स्वामीनारायण संप्रदाय के संतों और भक्तों द्वारा पारंपरिक प्रार्थना की गई। कार्यक्रम का औपचारिक शुभारंभ उपस्थित गणमान्य व्यक्तियों द्वारा दीप प्रज्वलन के साथ हुआ।
वैदिक विचारधारा का शैक्षणिक समावेशन
नए पाठ्यक्रम का आधिकारिक उद्घाटन बी.ए.पी.एस. स्वामीनारायण शोध संस्थान के प्रमुख और प्रख्यात विद्वान साधु भद्रेशदास स्वामी तथा एनएसयू के कुलपति प्रो. गुल्लपल्लि एस.आर. कृष्णमूर्ति द्वारा किया गया। 'प्रस्थानत्रयी स्वामीनारायण भाष्य' के रचयिता साधु भद्रेशदास स्वामी ने अक्षरपुरुषोत्तम दर्शन को एक विशिष्ट वैदिक दर्शन के रूप में शैक्षणिक मान्यता दिलाने में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई है।
शांति के लिए एक वैश्विक दर्शन
अतिथियों का स्वागत करते हुए, दर्शन संकाय के अधिष्ठाता (डीन) प्रो. के. गणपति भट्ट ने जोर देकर कहा कि यह कोई साधारण अवसर नहीं है। उन्होंने कहा, "जिस तरह आदि शंकराचार्य और मध्वाचार्य ने पूरे भारत में वैदिक ज्ञान फैलाने के लिए केंद्रों की स्थापना की, उसी तरह बी.ए.पी.एस. स्वामीनारायण संस्था ने अबू धाबी से पेरिस तक विश्व स्तर पर आध्यात्मिक केंद्र स्थापित किए हैं। अब, एनएसयू में अक्षरपुरुषोत्तम दर्शन के लिए एक केंद्र स्थापित किया गया है।" उन्होंने आगे कहा कि यह दर्शन बौद्धिक संघर्ष के बजाय आंतरिक शांति और सद्भाव प्रदान करने पर आधारित है।
वैदिक सनातन धर्म का महासागर
अपने उद्घाटन भाषण में, साधु भद्रेशदास स्वामी ने वैदिक सनातन धर्म को एक विशाल महासागर बताया। उन्होंने कहा, "वही वैदिक ज्ञान अद्वैत, विशिष्टाद्वैत या द्वैत के रूप में प्रवाहित हुआ है, और आज यह अक्षरपुरुषोत्तम दर्शन के रूप में प्रवाहित हो रहा है।" उन्होंने परम पूज्य महंत स्वामी महाराज द्वारा दी गई परिभाषा को उद्धृत किया: "अक्षरपुरुषोत्तम सिद्धांत को अच्छी तरह से जानना चाहिए, जो ब्रह्मविद्या का स्वरूप, दिव्य, वैदिक और सनातन है।" उन्होंने एनएसयू को एक "दुर्लभ विश्वविद्यालय" बताया जो दर्शन, परंपरा और भक्ति के प्रति सम्मान का अनूठा संतुलन बनाए रखता है। उन्होंने इन पाठ्यक्रमों की शुरुआत की तुलना एक बीज बोने से की जो आगे चलकर ज्ञान का एक विशाल वटवृक्ष बनेगा।
प्राचीन परंपरा और आधुनिक विस्तार का संगम
समारोह की अध्यक्षता करते हुए, कुलपति प्रो. जी.एस.आर. कृष्णमूर्ति ने एक महत्वपूर्ण ऐतिहासिक समानता बताई। उन्होंने उल्लेख किया कि आदि शंकराचार्य के बाद, यह साधु भद्रेशदास स्वामी ही हैं जिन्होंने वेदान्त के तीनों आधारभूत ग्रंथों (प्रस्थानत्रयी) पर संस्कृत भाष्य लिखने का महान कार्य संपन्न किया है। उन्होंने इस दर्शन को जन-जन के हृदय में जगाने और इसे वैश्विक पहचान दिलाने का श्रेय परम पूज्य प्रमुख स्वामी महाराज को दिया। कुलपति ने आगे कहा, "हमने इस विभाग की स्थापना यह सुनिश्चित करने के लिए की है कि यह गहन दर्शन प्रत्येक व्यक्ति तक पहुंचे। आज हमने एक छोटा सा बीज बोया है; भविष्य में यह एक विशाल वटवृक्ष के रूप में पुष्पित-पल्लवित होगा।"
आध्यात्मिक विरासत का स्मरण
इन पाठ्यक्रमों का शुभारंभ विश्वविद्यालय परिसर में ’अक्षरपुरुषोत्तम दर्शन मंडप’ की रचना के अवसर को एक वर्ष पूर्ण होने पर हुआ है। अन्य मंडपों की तरह यह मंडप भी विद्यार्थीओं को दार्शनिक ज्ञान होने के लिए उपकारक बना है। बी.ए.पी.एस. के वर्तमान आध्यात्मिक प्रमुख परम पूज्य महंत स्वामी महाराज की कृपा से, इस शैक्षणिक और आध्यात्मिक मील के पत्थर का साक्षी बनने के लिए 300 से अधिक श्रद्धालु एकत्रित हुए।

शास्त्री और आचार्य कार्यक्रमों की शुरुआत यह सुनिश्चित करती है कि राष्ट्रीय संस्कृत विश्वविद्यालय के छात्रों को अब अन्य शास्त्रीय दर्शनों की तरह ही शैक्षणिक गहनता के साथ अक्षरपुरुषोत्तम दर्शन का अध्ययन करने का अवसर मिलेगा।
