From June 8-16, 2024, devotees and well-wishers gathered at the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Toronto to celebrate the ‘Smruti Yatra,’ marking the first anniversary of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj’s 2023 visit to Canada. This auspicious occasion was a time of deep reflection and joyous remembrance for all who cherish the spiritual teachings and presence of Mahant Swami Maharaj.
The celebrations centered around the theme that recalling the divine episodes of God, and Guru alleviates our worries and sorrows, fostering spiritual growth and inner peace. Families and individuals alike participated in various activities designed to relive the memorable moments from his visit a year ago.
Highlights of the festivities included two special ‘Smruti Sabhas,’ spiritual assemblies where attendees revisited precious memories through video collages, heartfelt speeches by volunteers, and recounted anecdotes of Mahant Swami Maharaj’s interactions during his stay. Every aspect of his visit was cherished and celebrated, from the grand Rath Yatra and sacred arti rituals to glimpses of his morning puja and interactions with guests.
A notable feature of the anniversary celebration was a special exhibition housed in the gymnasium. It showcased artifacts and items sanctified by Mahant Swami Maharaj himself. Attendees could also explore a recreated glimpse of his residence, offering a personal connection to his spiritual presence and teachings.
The event featured a 'Smruti Trail' around the Mandir campus, allowing devotees and well-wishers to visit various sanctified spots associated with Mahant Swami Maharaj. Each spot included displays featuring photos of activities that occurred there, along with QR codes to view video highlights.
There was also a volunteer appreciation assembly, a testament to the invaluable role of the volunteers in making Mahant Swami Maharaj's visit a resounding success. These dedicated individuals were acknowledged for their tireless efforts in organizing and facilitating the celebrations; their contributions serving as a beacon of inspiration for the entire community.
A 'Smruti Board' was set up in the front lobby, where attendees could write down their favorite memories of HH Mahant Swami Maharaj’s visit and add them to the board, creating a collective reflection of cherished moments.
In addition to community gatherings, devotees marked the occasion at home with ‘Smruti Ghar Sabhas,’ to help children and adults come together, interact, and learn to understand each other better. They delved into Mahant Swami Maharaj’s teachings and discussed ways to incorporate his exemplary qualities into their daily lives.
