A three-day residential shibir for around 400 children aged 8 to 13 years from across the UK and Europe was held from 25 to 27 August 2024 at Warwick Conference Park to help them develop their understanding and application of core Satsang principles.
Conveyed through a thrilling special agent-themed theatre production interwoven with engaging spiritual talks by swamis, vibrant musicals, uplifting presentations, and interactive classroom sessions, each delegate was tasked with a ‘secret mission’ to establish jodān (a strong spiritual connection) with their guru, Mahant Swami Maharaj.
The insightful messages used to explain how to fulfil that mission focussed on three key facets:
• Man (Mind) – Developing a deeper understanding of Mahant Swami Maharaj through his work and virtues, i.e. realising that our Guru is unique and divine. By doing constant smruti, we can reflect on his greatness and the moments of joy he has shared with us.
• Karma (Actions) – Following the Guru’s agnas (instructions) with pride, learning that Mahant Swami Maharaj’s guidance is meant to benefit us, moulding us into strong, responsible, spiritually aligned individuals.
• Vachan (Speech) – Not only speaking positively to others, but always seeing the good in everyone. And by sharing prasangs about Mahant Swami Maharaj, we not only strengthen our own faith, we also inspire others.
Ultimately, by increasing jodān through man, karma, and vachan, we gradually imbibe the virtues of the Satpurush, experiencing his understanding and happiness as our own.
A vibrant kirtan bhakti programme delivered by swamis and youths provided an opportunity for the young attendees to immerse themselves in devotional music and express their feelings of devout elation by singing, clapping, and dancing, creating a spiritually charged and uplifting atmosphere.
Group discussions and classroom sessions allowed the delegates to engage in some fun activity-based learning, delving deeper into why following our Guru’s wishes leads us to live a morally upright, happy, and successful life. They were inspired to stay courageous in times of hardship and were given practical tips on how to decide between right and wrong.
The children were also encouraged to describe the good qualities of fellow children to encourage seeing and speaking positively. By harbouring a positive, unified community spirit, they completed the mission and were able to establish their connection to Mahant Swami Maharaj, who gave all the ‘special agents’ unforgettable blessings.
