The 91st birth anniversary of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj was commemorated with an enlightening musical and poetic tribute on Saturday 28 September 2024 at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London.
Mahant Swami Maharaj has dedicated his life to selfless service and unwavering faith in God. He is a guiding light for millions of people around the world. These virtues were celebrated with a programme titled “Yours Forever”, which was held twice – in the afternoon and again in the evening – to allow more than 7,000 devotees and well-wishers to develop a deeper insight into his noble life and uplifting messages.
More than 50 young and senior participants performed cultural and devotional presentations, which were planned and organised through the hard work of over 100 volunteers. The series of emotive poems and melodious kirtans offered heartfelt pledges to Mahant Swami Maharaj to become immersed with him by understanding his own profound dedication and deep connection with his gurus.
Swamis elaborated further through a series of discourses, explaining Mahant Swami Maharaj’s unique and special relationship with Yogiji Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj, and the conviction and faith that he has imparted to people from all walks of life throughout the world. These were supported by a series of heartfelt personal testimonies from devotees who described his life-changing impact in their lives.
Following the recital of the individual poems, each narrator placed a small decorative piece on a large heart in the assembly hall, symbolising the connection with Mahant Swami Maharaj. After the last poem was shared, a young child placed the final piece of an origami heart – which Mahant Swami Maharaj had created himself – perfectly in the centre, thus completing the heart and symbolising a perpetual, lasting connection with him.
The celebrations concluded with a vibrant and colourful dance by youths, charging the atmosphere with devotion and fervour.
Pooja Patel, who attended the afternoon performance, shared, “What a beautiful programme! The melodies were captivating and the narrations, particularly from the young children, were exceptional. Mahant Swami Maharaj has touched the lives of so many people across the world, yet this programme provided new insights into the way in which he connects universally with everyone. My teenage daughter expressed that the assembly reaffirmed her belief that Mahant Swami Maharaj is a guiding light and inspiration for her.”
Vandan Patel, a lead volunteer, added, “The dedication of volunteers and the commitment of the performers and crew – particularly the children and youths, who worked tirelessly for more than two months – ensured thousands were able to understand the divine and compassionate personality of Mahant Swami Maharaj and strengthen their spiritual relationship with him. It was heartwarming to see so many write their own messages to Mahant Swami Maharaj on origami hearts and become part of this wonderful occasion.”
