On August 5, 2024, the California State Assembly passed a resolution commemorating the 50th anniversary of the first BAPS Mandir in North America. Introduced by Assemblymember Alex Lee of District 24 and co-sponsored by Assemblymembers Stephanie Nguyen, Ash Kalra, Liz Ortega, and Phillip Chen, the resolution marked a significant moment for the BAPS community. Volunteers from across California gathered in the State Capitol in Sacramento to celebrate the occasion in the Assembly chamber, a reflection of the community's immense pride and joy.

Assemblymember Alex Lee praised BAPS's enduring impact: “This year marks the 50th anniversary of BAPS in North America. Since 1974, BAPS has been an organization dedicated to fostering community, spirituality, and service, and it has played a vital role in enriching the lives of countless individuals through its various initiatives, including educational programs, humanitarian efforts, and cultural activities.”

The 50th anniversary of the first Mandir in North America celebrates the dedication of countless volunteers and devotees, guided by the vision of His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj and His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj. For five decades, they have promoted values of selfless service, faith, and harmony across North America. The seven Mandirs in California, including the first North American Mandir in New York, exemplify these principles, fostering community unity and driving positive change.

BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha is a global Hindu organization devoted to nurturing faith, inspiring service, and promoting a better way of life. Established in 1974 by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the first BAPS Mandir in North America was constructed in New York. Since then, BAPS has expanded its North American presence to over 100 Mandirs throughout the United States and Canada, including six traditional stone Hindu Mandirs and the BAPS Swaminarayan Akshardham in Robbinsville, New Jersey.
