In honor of Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage month, volunteers from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Tampa, FL, participated in the 2nd Annual AAPI Cultural Festival 2024 with Mayor Jane Castor and the City of Tampa. The vibrant and colorful festival celebrated the diverse cultures of the Asian and Pacific Islander communities in the heart of downtown Tampa. BAPS youth represented India by performing the Shanti Path (a recitation for peace and harmony), reciting the Satsang Diksha shlokas (verses), singing of the National Anthem of India and spiritual songs. During the festival, BAPS hosted a booth showcasing a collection of Indian arts and offered a rangoli workshop, providing visitors with an opportunity to immerse in India's vibrant culture. Visitors were treated to an unforgettable afternoon and evening, experiencing cultural performances and educational exhibits. Countries represented at the festival included Korea, Philippines, China, Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, India, Japan, Indonesia, Taiwan, and Malaysia as well as the Hawaiian South Pacific Islands.

Through events like the Annual Asian Pacific Islander Cultural Festival, the city of Tampa and Mayor Jane Castor have played a pivotal role in fostering an appreciation for diverse cultures within the community. Members from the BAPS community underscored the city’s collective commitment to diversity by participating in and learning about the cultures represented at the event.
