BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leeds, has served as a cornerstone for spiritual growth, cultural preservation and community service for the past ten years, welcoming individuals to connect, deepen their faith, and contribute meaningfully to society. The Mandir has enriched lives, strengthened families, and fostered a vibrant, close-knit community.
The 10th anniversary celebrations of the Mandir were joyously held at Leeds City Academy in the presence of Shri Akshar-Purushottam Maharaj and over 250 devotees, members of the local community, and swamis from BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London.
The event was attended by various guests and dignitaries, including Dr Manoj Joshi MBE – Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Alex Sobel MP – Member of Parliament for Leeds Central and Headingly, Andy Rontree – Councillor for Kirkstall, and leading figures from various Hindu organisations.
Dr Joshi spoke of the importance of the Mandir and its place within the community as well as the values it promotes, particularly of harmony amid diversity. He also highlighted the importance of the volunteers and their energy and enthusiasm in serving the community.
Mr Sobel said that it was a “great pleasure to have the only two Hindu temples in Leeds in my constituency” and elaborated on his uplifting experiences of visiting the BAPS mandir in Leeds as well as Neasden Temple in London. He also shared that he was looking forward to supporting the Mandir and working closely with the volunteers in activities that will help the local community.
Umang Brahmbhatt, a leading BAPS volunteer in Leeds, added, “It is so encouraging to see how our mandir has become such an integral part of the local community over the last decade. Our heartfelt appreciation goes to everyone for all their help and support, and we look forward to serving the community for many more years to come.”
The 10th anniversary celebrations were not only a commemoration of a decade of devotion and service, but also a glimpse into a future marked by the same faith, harmony and dedication that has defined the Mandir since its inception.
