For the past decade, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has served as more than just a place of worship. It has been a vital center for spiritual growth, cultural preservation, and community service, inviting individuals to connect with their heritage, deepen their faith, and contribute meaningfully to society. Through diverse programs, the Mandir has enriched lives, strengthened families, and nurtured a vibrant, close-knit community.
From September 13–15, 2024, the Mandir celebrated its 10th anniversary with events that embodied the values it has upheld for the past decade. The celebrations honored the Mandir’s journey, filled with devotion, reflection, and cultural expression.
The festivities began with a Parayan (discourse) by Pujya Gnanpriyadas Swami on the significance of Shastras (Scriptures). The following day, a discourse focused on the importance of Mandirs. The second day also featured the Jal Jhilani and Ganeshji Visarjan festival, adding a festive spirit to the occasion. On the morning of the third day, the Kalash Yatra was a breathtaking spectacle as a procession of women, carrying ornate kalash on their heads, gracefully circumambulated the Mandir. Their captivating devotional dances and soul-stirring kirtans radiated vibrant energy.
The 10th anniversary was also marked by the Patotsav Vidhi and Abhishek, a traditional ceremony that brought peace and gratitude to all attendees. The spiritual depth of the event was enhanced by the presence of over five swamis and video blessings from Sadguru Pujya Swayamprakashdas Swami (Doctor Swami), Sadguru Pujya Tyagvallabhdas Swami, Sadguru Pujya Viveksagardas Swami, and Sadguru Pujya Ishwarcharandas Swami.
A highlight of the program was a moving stage drama depicting a family's journey to reunion, exemplifying Shri Ram's timeless values of unity, selflessness, respect, and obedience. This was followed by an energetic dance performance by the balaks and balikas.
The grand finale featured a nostalgic look back at the Mandir’s history, celebrating its growth from its opening to the present. As devotees reflected on its achievements and milestones, a sense of pride and hope for the future was palpable. The community was especially moved by video blessings from His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, reinforcing the joy and spiritual significance of the occasion.
The 10th-anniversary celebration was not just a commemoration of a decade of devotion and service, but a hopeful glimpse into a future marked by the same unity and dedication that has defined the Mandir since its inception.
