For the past decade, the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Calhoun, Georgia, has been much more than a place of worship. On September 21-22, 2024, the Mandir celebrated its 10th anniversary with a series of events that beautifully showcased the values it has upheld since its establishment. The weekend was filled with devotion, reflection, and cultural expression, paying tribute to the Mandir’s journey over the past decade.
The celebrations began with a vibrant women’s cultural program brought the stories to life of women devotees who have been part of the Mandir's history. Women of all ages shared how the Mandir has impacted their lives, showcasing its profound influence on their personal and spiritual journeys. This program highlighted the significant role the Mandir plays in shaping future generations, particularly in nurturing spiritual growth among women.
Following the Women's cultural program, there was a special program to welcome Shri Akshar Purushottam Maharaj's new murtis into the Mandir with heartfelt prayers. As part of this event, many devotees also had the chance to welcome Akshar Purushottam Maharaj into their homes.
A highlight of the anniversary was the Murti Abhishek, a sacred ritual in which the murtis (sacred images) were ceremonially bathed with sanctified substances. This ritual symbolizes the purification and renewal of devotion, reaffirming the spiritual bond between devotees and the divine. Over five swamis, including Pujya Shantmurtidas Swami, graced the occasion with their blessings, enriching the spiritual experience for all attendees.
The Kirtan Aradhana, a devotional musical program, filled the Mandir with melodious bhajans that reflected the devotion over the past ten years. Pujya Swamis and devotees from across the region participated, creating an atmosphere of bhakti that resonated with all present.
The grand finale was a nostalgic journey through the history of the Mandir, from its construction to its growth over the past decade.
