More than 100 centers across North America celebrated guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s divine and selfless life as a part of his centennial celebrations.
His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj's virtues and life’s work transformed individuals, families, and communities worldwide. The program, themed ‘Param Shanti’, meaning Eternal Bliss, focused on his selfless love, unwavering faith in Bhagwan (God) and innate humility.
Pramukh Swami’s life was one of constant travels through villages and cities across the world. Despite immense responsibilities involved with leading a global spiritual organization with over 1,300 temples, his everyday life was immersed in personally caring for devotees and serving humanity. He did so seamlessly without compromising his bhakti (spiritual devotion), niyams (spiritual guidelines) and adherence to Hindu teachings.
His equanimity during dire circumstances reflected his firm belief that whatever happens is by the wish of Bhagwan and is ultimately for our own good. His composure, patience, and forgiveness laid the ultimate example of maintaining calm and peace through life’s trials. Millions sought comfort and guidance from him as he was always at peace regardless of external circumstances.
Despite achievements lined in the Guinness Book of World Records and accolades from prominent leaders, his self-view of a mere vessel of Bhagwan was evident in all his words and actions. He sacrificed his life and physical body in the service of mankind yet credited Bhagwan, his gurus, and devotees for those achievements. His impact was evident in the 2.1 million people from around the world that rushed to have his last darshan (viewing) and over 450,000 in attendance at his last rites.
Through personal narratives from people around the world from all walks of life, the program captured his inspiration for self-improvement at an individual level and its collective impact on a global level. For so many in attendance, the stories were reminiscent of their personal experiences with Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
Today, Pramukh Swami Maharaj’s influence is vibrant and carries forth in individuals, homes, and communities. BAPS temples and centers he established across the world serve as a hub for weekly spiritual, cultural and charitable activities. His legacy, anchored in selfless service, humility, and firm faith, continues through the life and example of the present guru - Mahant Swami Maharaj.
