Windsor is one of the most blessed cities in the history of Satsang in Canada. In 1974 His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj's first visit to Canada was to Windsor, Ontario. Since then, Swamis have traveled here many times for Vicharan, conducting satsang assemblies and visiting devotees’ homes. Over time, the growth in Satsang activities created a need for a Mandir. This need was fulfilled with the inauguration of a new BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir on Saturday, August 5, 2017.
The BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, in Windsor has now become a place of worship and a place to nurture Hindu traditions for generations to come for the hundreds of Indo-Canadian families living in Windsor and adjoining cities.
The Mandir Mahotsav celebration started on Friday, August 4, 2017, with an evening of devotional songs and speeches by learned Swamis in the presence of guests and community members.
The Mandir Inauguration ceremony took place on the auspicious morning of Saturday, August 5, 2017, in the presence of Pujya Narayanmuni Swami, devotees, well-wishers and community leaders. These murtis were consecrated by His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj in Toronto on July 23, 2017. A colorful cultural program followed the Murti Sthapan vidhi, which was presented by the children and youth of Windsor.
Special Guests over the two-day celebration included, Mr. Brian Masse, Member of Parliament, Windsor West (representing the riding of Mandir).
His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj have also inspired the magnificent hand-carved marble and stone BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, in Toronto, to nurture individuals, families and the communities across Canada.
