In the year 2007-2008, Shree Somnath Sanskrit University started the studies of Swaminarayan Vedant syllabus Shastri (B.A) and Acharya (M.A) was started under the guidance of the scholars of AARSH – the Akshardham center for Advanced Research in Social Harmony. AARSH was also recognized as an official PhD Center in collaboration with the University. During the academic year of 2013-2014, the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya was established under the University’s aegis, continuing the tradition of the Yagnapurush Sanskrut Vidyalaya. Students of the Mahavidyalaya's first year Bachelors degree students will attend classes and take exams conducted by the University.
On February 7, 2016, the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Dwaram's shilanyas took place in the presence of the Governor of Gujarat Hon'ble Shri O.P Kohli, Gujarat’s Minister for Education Shri Bhupendrasinh Chudasama, Gujarat’s Minister for Agriculture Shri Jashabhai Barad, Vice-Chancellor of Ambedkar Open University Shri Pankaj Jani, renowned scholar and poet Shri Ramakaran Sharma and Vice Chancellor of Shree Somnath Sankrit University Professor Ark Nath Chaudhary.
Together with the shilanyas, an international seminar on ‘Shivatatva in Sanskrit Literature’ was held in which various scholars presented their views. Two Ph.D. Degrees were awarded, to Sadhu AdarshJivanDas and Shri Jankisharan Das.
As a part of the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Janma Shatabdi Mahotsav celebrations, the Pramukh Swami Maharaj Dwar shilanyas mahotsav was witnessed by more than 700 scholars, including Professors and University Vice-Chancellors.
