Thasra is well known in the Swaminarayan Sampradaya as the native village of Shri Gordhanbhai, the distinguished Kothari of Vartal Mandir, and Vignandas Swami, an eminent sadhu of Shastriji Maharaj. The town has been sanctified by the numerous visits of Shastriji Maharaj, Yogiji Maharaj and Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
A BAPS satsang centre was established in Thasra in 1979 by local devotees. On 20 February 1998, Pramukh Swami Maharaj performed murti-pratishtha at a new mandir there.
On 27 January 2015, Swamishri performed the Vedic murti-pratishtha of the new murtis to be consecrated in the existing mandir.
On 15 February 2015, prior to the installation of the new murtis, 125 yajmans participated in the Yagna for World Peace. In the afternoon the murtis were taken in a grand nagar-yatra through the town.
The murtis were then ritually consecrated in the mandir on 16 February 2015 by Pujya Tyagvallabh Swami.
