Brahmaswarup Yogiji Maharaj had envisioned a grand mandir in Kolkata - then known as Calcutta - a vision which was nurtured by the efforts, guidance and blessings of Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
After many years of efforts, the magnificent new shikharbaddh BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir in Kolkata was completed.
The inauguration celebrations of the new mandir were held from 31 January to 2 February 2014.
On 31 January, the senior sadhus performed the Vastu Yagna ceremony of the mandir. In the afternoon, a grand, colorful procession of the murtis to be consecrated in the mandir was held through the major streets of Kolkata.
On the morning of 1 February, senior sadhus presided over the Vedic Yagna for World Peace, in which around 508 yajmans participated.
In Ahmedabad, on 15 March 2013, Pramukh Swami Maharaj had previously performed the Vedic murti-pratishthta rituals of the murtis for the new mandir. Thus, on 2 February, the sadguru sadhus performed the Vedic rituals and consecrated the murtis in the shrines of the new mandir.
