In preparation for the UK Bal-Balika Mandal’s multi-event Kidz Ultimate Challenge (KUC), more than 300 enthusiastic children attended a training day organised at the BAPS Swaminarayan mandirs in London and Leicester on the weekend of 18 and 19 August 2012, respectively.
The event was designed to help participants reach their potential and excel in their various competitions through guidance provided by volunteers and sadhus. Practical hints, tips and advice were on offer throughout the weekend on a wide range of topics.
The speech class, for example, covered important techniques such as eye contact, body language, enunciation and intonation. There were also sessions to help improve memory as well as singing potential. Workshops on essay writing, mono-acting and graphic design were also very informative and well received. A key part of the training day was a surgery session where skilled trainers offered individual advice to children who were seeking specific help.
The event was welcomed by both the children and their parents, since many of the skills that were covered will prove useful in their education and overall development.
The children left inspired, motivated and more confident. One girl, aged 11, shared: “The sessions really helped and showed me I can do much more.”
