A devotional celebration to mark the first patotsav (anniversary) of BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Leicester was held at the Mandir on Sunday 7 October 2012.
The festivities began with Vedic rituals performed by sadhus in the shrines of the Mandir. Devotees also participated in the abhishek of Shri Nilkanth Varni, and an annakut (ceremonial offering of food) of sweet and savoury dishes was then offered to the murtis in thanksgiving.
In the evening assembly, devotees shared a montage of memories and personal testimonies of how the Mandir has positively impacted their lives since its opening last year – including a recollection of the humble beginnings of activities in Leicester from 1970.
Volunteers also observed how the Mandir has served as a place of peace, inspiration and service to the local community.
The assembly concluded with the key address of Narendraprasad Swami (Acharya Swami), a senior sadhu visiting from India, who encouraged all to utilise the Mandir to progress spiritually and for peace to prevail in one’s life.
Devotees and well-wishers visited the Mandir throughout the day to offer their respects and prayers.
