On 5 June 2011, over 2,500 kishores and kishoris participated in the final round of the Zonal Public Speaking Competition held throughout Gujarat and Mumbai.
About a month prior to the finals day, the topics for the speeches were disclosed to all. The participating kishores and kishoris then competed separately in two groups for each: Nilkanth (age 14-18 years) and Sahajanand (19-23 years).
The preliminary round was held in May at each local center in which many thousands of kishores and kishoris took part. The judges at each center selected the youths who had performed well to proceed to the final round, where they competed with kishores and kishoris from their zone.
For kishores, the zonal finals were held at 30 venues in which 1,000 kishores (Nilkanth group: 400, Sahajanand group: 600) participated. For kishoris, the zonal finals were held at 41 locations in which 1,520 kishores (Nilkanth group: 700, Sahajanand group: 820) participated.
The judges found the overall standard at performance to be very encouraging and the outstanding performers were awarded prizes.
The competition helped to build confidence in the youths and refine their public speaking skills.
