BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Wellingborough, held its annual Akhand Dhun on Friday 1 January 2010 in the new mandir on Mill Road. Despite the bitterly cold weather, many devotees from across the UK as well as sadhus and invited guests gathered for a twelve-hour chanting of the Swaminarayan Mahamantra. Devotees flocked to the doors of the new mandir from 7.00am and continued to arrive until 7.00pm to participate in the chanting and have darshan of the ‘Akshar Deri’ to pray for world peace, harmony and well-being. Many also gathered in the evening assembly to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Aksharbrahma Gunatitanand Swami’s diksha. Refreshments and meals were provided throughout the day.
