A one day National Mahila Shibir was held in Ashton-Under-Lyne on Sun 28 September 2003. Over 1000 mahilas from London, Milton Keynes, Luton, Wellingborough, Leicester, Birmingham, Nottingham, Preston, Loughborough, Bradford, Bolton, Sheffield and Ashton attended this shibir.
The program commenced with the welcome of Thakorji in a decorated palkhi followed by a swagat dance. In total, 41 items were performed by mahilas of all ages - from balikas to the elderly. There was a mixed variety for the day - nrutyas, kirtans, kavaalis, bharatya naatyam (dances), garba, raas, Swamini Vaat, Vachanamrut, slide shows, quizzes and pravachans.
The shibir was thoroughly enjoyed by all, and was extremly successful due to the splendid and efficient organization by the Ashton Mahila Mandal volunteers.
