On Saturday, November 22, 2003, the Northeast I Kishori Mandal held its second annual College and Career Fair in Edison mandir.
Presentations on the College Application Process, Choosing the Right College, Financial Aid, and how to succeed in American Colleges as a student who is new to the USA were given to inform high school, college-aged Kishoris and their parents about points to consider at this time of life. After deep pragatya, two keynote speakers kicked off the event. One was author S. Mitra Kalita who is a renowned journalist and president of the elite South Asian Journalists' Association at Columbia University. She spoke about her Indian American experience and the importance of working hard and following your dreams and succeeding. The other keynote speaker was Dean Bridell of Douglass College at Rutgers University. Douglass College is the largest all-women's public college in the United States. She spoke about how to make the most of the high school years in order to have a successful college career.
Words of inspiration, motivation, and seasoned advice characterized the entire event, and the audience was given ample information regarding the high school to college transition. In the reception area, while students and professionals mingled, several local universities and representatives from various careers were also present in order to give an inside view on what it is like at a particular college or within a particular profession. Kishoris and parents from Clifton, Edison, Jersey City, Philadelphia, and Cherry Hill participated in the events of the day.
