BAPS is a unique socio-religious organization giving service of all types to the earthquake affected people of Gujarat in general and Kachchh in particular. Starting with rescue, nourishment and rehabilitation, it has also provided entire spectrum of medical care.
During earthquake many people just had to ran away from their houses leaving behind everything including their primary needs like spectacles, resulting in living with blur vision. The reduced eyesight of these affected people was not only painful to them but also resulted in major and minor injuries. The situation was worst as there were no ophthalmic experts and proper medical setup facilities available in Bhuj or surroundings.
BAPS was the first to solve this problem by organizing an eye camp at Swaminarayan Nagar, Bhuj. On Sunday March 18, 2001 at 9.00 am, the sadhus inaugurated this medical camp for all the people of Bhuj. Alongwith eye checkup, a skin checkup camp was also held there. A team of eight prominent specialists ophthalmologists and dermatologists with and auto refractor operator and two ophthalmic technicians managed the camp.
Totally 1,010 patients were examined, for eyes and skin diseases. 410 were given pairs of spectacles. 70 were referred to undergo eye surgery. BAPS sponsored all these surgeries at free of cost at the hospitals at Amdavad, Rajkot and Baroda.
