| Since the day of disaster,            BAPS has been providing food, medicines, clothings and many other necessities            to the affected.In the first few weeks, relief material distribution            was the focus of all the activities. While BAPS volunteers were busy            in distribution and providing temporary shelters to the homeless, HDH            Pramukh Swami Maharaj instructed a team of saints and expert volunteers            to tour the earthquake affected areas of Gujarat and work out a plan            of action for the rehabilitation of the earthquake victims.
 The team surveyed the areas and devised a plan of action as follows:

            | VILLAGE          ADOPTION SCHEME | 
        
            |  | The Sanstha will adopt 10 villages          across Gujarat, and take up the responsibility of reconstruction in these          villages. BAPS will build around 1,800 to 2,000 permanent houses in these          villages. The houses have been designed by structural engineers to be          earthquake resistant.

            |  | In addition to the adopted villages,          BAPS will also construct 400 permanent houses to rehabilitate around 2,000          people in Bhuj area. BAPS will also help and assist in building 600 houses          in affected areas of the Saurashtra(Rajkot and Surendranagar) region. | 
        
            | EDUCATION          SCHEME | 
        
            |  | As part of contribution to education,          BAPS will build schools, bal-mandirs (kindergartens) and angan-wadis (play          schools) in around 25 selected villages. | 
        
            | HEALTH          SCHEME | 
        
            |  | BAPS will establish a modern          polyclinic in Bhuj, with most facilities available under one roof - X-ray,          pathology, sonography, echo-cardiogram and many more facilities. Other than these activities, the Sanstha has already begun operating 2          mobile vans in the affected areas of Kachchh The vans tour from village          to village with a doctor, to diagnose and treat patients who do not have          access to a hospital.
