The celebration of 'Maha-Shivratri' began with the sacred installation of Shiv-Lings beneath the Mandir dome amidst chanting of Shiv Mahima Stotram by the pious pundits of the Mandir. Every visiting devotee offered Billi-Patra on the Shiva-Lings and Rudrabhishek was performed with pouring of sacred water in which the holy rivers Ganga, Jamuna, Saraswati, Godavari, Kaveri, etc. were invoked. The atmosphere was filled with the divine Shiva Panchakshara Stotra.
On this auspicious day, a mahapuja was performed in which more than 550 people participated. An Annakut of "falahaar" of 34 different varieties was offered in the shrines of Shiv-Parvati & Ghanshyam Maharaj. More than 11,500 devotees participated in the Maha-Shivratri festival. In the evening a special assembly was held to celebrate "Shiv-Ratri". On this holy occasion, special prayers were performed for the alleviation of misery of the flood victims of Mozambique and for peace for the departed souls.
A replica of the Shiv-Lingam at Amarnath in India was made with ice.
