During the spate of floods from the river Tapi in the Surat region, Pramukh Swami phoned from New York where he was recuperating from his coronary bypass, and activated the Sanstha's sadhus and volunteers to provide relief and aid to the affected.
Under the guidance of the state government, the sanstha's volunteers shouldered the task of providing basic necessities to the victims. In addition, to help prevent the spread of flood-related diseases, a team of over 20 doctors from the sanstha travelled the afflicted areas. In just one day, over 10,000 patients were treated and provided with free medicines.
For almost a week after the floods, the sanstha provided food, clothing and other basic necessities. The sanstha provided the following aid:
-
Food packets :35,000 packs
-
Milk packets :3,000 packs
-
Clothes :5,000 clothes
-
Utensils :500 sets
-
Primus stoves :500 stoves
-
Grains (Wheat etc.) :10,000 kgs.
The rendering of this aid was all the more remarkable since the Mandir, from where the activities were co-ordinated, was itself inundated in nearly 10 feet deep water!
