On Saturday, March 19, 2016, landmarks and cities worldwide turned off their lights for one hour in celebration of Earth Hour, the world’s largest environmental event. BAPS Mandirs across North America once again joined this movement in an effort to shine a light on climate action and the effect of energy use on our planet. Lights were switched off from 8:30 pm - 9:30 pm local time in observance of this annual global event.
BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha actively supports environmental sustainability efforts throughout the year through recycling projects, utilizing solar power, LED lighting, and power-saving fiber optics in the designs for mandirs. In addition, BAPS is involved with tree planting and water conservation efforts as well as promoting effective management practices in activities to ensure optimal and efficient energy consumption.
Earth Hour was also observed at Swaminarayan Akshardham in New Delhi and BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, London. To learn more about Earth Hour and the WWF, please follow the respective links.
